And do not bring us to the time of trial, but rescue us from the evil one.
-Matthew 6:13
(Please read the scripture passage through three times using the practice of lectio divina.)
Reflection
When asked by a reporter about Satanism and friendship with the Church of Satan founder, Anton LaVey, singer Marilyn Manson responded, “Satanism is basically capitalism. It’s the ultimate American dream. It’s about finding your strengths and learning to use them. It’s about making money. It’s about the need to survive and succeed in a world full of idiots. It is a form of social Darwinism.”
When we say the Lord’s prayer, we pledge our allegiance to the resistance. We declare our allegiance to the God who ought to be hallowed above all other rulers. We give our loyalty to God’s kingdom and economy. We promise our devotion to God’s provision, abundance, and forgiveness. Rather than signing up for a God-enabled life of comfort and ease, we’re signing up for battle against the powers and principalities of this world. No wonder the last petition of the Lord’s prayer asks God to save us from evil.
Action (Pray)
Pray the Lord’s prayer slowly, savoring each line. Allow it to express your devotion and allegiance to God’s will and way.
