March 30
Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the road is easy that leads to destruction, and there are many who take it. For the gate is narrow and the road is hard that leads to life, and there are few who find it.
-Matthew 7:13-14
(please read through the passage 3 times using the practice of lectio divina)
Reflection
Tens of thousands of people fill stadiums to hear sexy pop stars. A rally for a good cause such as creation care may draw just a few hundred or less. Jesus reassures us that even if there aren’t a lot of people walking the narrow, hard road, it doesn’t mean that we are on the wrong track. In fact, if we are walking with the majority, we may want to check that we are on the kingdom road. ![]()
Action (Contemplate)
Conformity studies have shown that we look to others for confidence in our beliefs. Given that our culture teaches the worship of Mammon, the Self, and Security, there is a lot of peer pressure to make those our gods. While we may think that we each decide on our own beliefs and values, the truth is that we catch them from the people with whom we surround ourselves.
Have you found a little crew that can accompany you on the narrow and difficult road? If not, how could you gather such a group? If you have that group, is there a way that you can encourage the others as you walk the narrow way?
